As your Mayor I have worked hard to be available and responsive to the community. Whether it is my ongoing open coffee discussion sessions, visiting community events, talking to residents on the doorstep, or visiting local businesses, my goal is to listen to the ideas and concerns of residents, then work to find creative solutions. My belief is that to local government should be pragmatic and action-oriented.
It will be my privilege to continue to work with Council on your behalf.
Outside of politics I am dedicated to family and farming on the Saanich Peninsula. My wife Helen and I have helped to operate our own family-owned winery and distillery located right here in Central Saanich.
On our own 5 acre farm, we’ve had various livestock, horses, vegetables, orchard fruit, and barley. We both feel that raising our daughter Kyla and son Aidyn on the farm will give them an appreciation of how special the Saanich Peninsula is, given its close proximity to Victoria.
With our connection to two small but sound businesses, I understand the value that many small locally owned businesses bring to our community. The ability to offer quality jobs with respectable wages is a service that our community simply cannot do without.
Over the time that we have lived here, I have taken every opportunity given to me to better understand this place we call home. I have come to understand the fragility of the ecosystems that surround us as I have worked with Peninsula Streams, one of the most amazing organizations anywhere. As a past volunteer with Peninsula Streams, I was active in restoring and protecting creek habitat.
Play. With so many special places right here on the Peninsula… As a family we love to paddle in Brentwood Bay with its sheltered marine environment, or escape to the cool breeze at Island View Beach.
